Homayoun Haeri, the managing director of the Iran Power Generation, Transmission and Distribution Management Company (TAVANIR) recently stated that the country's renewable power output is scheduled to touch 400 MW by the year end.
It was in December 2014 that Iranian Deputy Energy Minister Houshang Falahatian stated that the country is looking forward to generate power from different sources of energy. He added that 1,000 MW of electricity should be generated per year from renewable energy in Iran.
In November 2014, Iranian Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian had put forward plans to develop national electricity industry and had given high priority to the solar and wind power plants. He had estimated electricity generation, transmission, and distribution to increase by 7 to 8 per cent every year.
Meanwhile, the administration of Hassan Rouhani is looking forward to harness solar energy and has allocated 60 million for solar energy projects in the present Iranian calendar year as compared to merely 12 million in the previous year. It wants to tap the rural communities, which are by and large cut off from government services in different parts of the country.
Currently, Iran's power generation capacity is 68.38 GW. Over the past ten years, the capacity has increased by 7 per cent every year.
