Through the installation of 5,000 high-efficiency rooftop solar panels at five of their long-term care homes, Jarlette estimates that they will meet approximately 31% of their annual electricity demand based on their total annual electricity consumption. The homes participating in this new project are Alexander Place in Waterdown, Elizabeth Centre in Val Caron, Leacock Care Centre in Orillia, Muskoka Landing in Huntsville and Temiskaming Lodge in Haileybury. Installations will commence in the spring of 2015.
"We're enthusiastic to be green stewards in the long-term care sector by reducing our carbon footprint through solar power. Throughout our homes and properties across Ontario, our top priority is to provide exceptionally quality care for seniors today. This is an exciting opportunity to also consider the health and well-being of future generations," David Jarlette, Jarlette Health Services.
The energy generated by these solar installations will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 1,058 metric tons of carbon dioxide. This is equivalent to the carbon dioxide reduced by 27,122 tree seedlings growing for 10 years or taking 223 cars off the road.
"SPN is proud to partner with Jarlette, an industry leader in long-term health care, in providing clean, renewable power to five of the Ontario communities in which they serve," Pete Goodman, SPN President and CEO.
Solar Power Network (SPN) is a privately held, employee-owned, rooftop solar power company with offices in Tokyo and Toronto. With its mission to hasten the smart grid future, SPN has in total almost 300 MW of clean generation, in various stages of development, distributed across more than 600 industrial, commercial and municipal buildings. It has a track record built over 32 million square feet of rooftops in development for solar power. By installing high-yield, low-angle solar panels on idle rooftops, SPN generates green energy on the buildings where it is needed, offsetting the need for the remotely generated power of nuclear and fossil fuels.
