Jandk Plans To Harness Solar Potential In Ladakh
The Jammu Kashmir government is gearing up to harness the huge solar energy potential in the Ladakh region. According to official sources, the Ladakh region has a potential of around 111GW of solar power potential, and Governor NN Vohra has called for tapping that potential.

The senior officials of the state government have been asked to review the existing barriers and challenges with all the stakeholders so that those could be addressed. The projects will be set up on huge tracts of barren lands in Ladakh.

The state government has already initiated procedure for setting up two mega solar power projects in the Ladakh region. It entered into an MoU with the Central government some time ago. The government has also devised an incentive package for the private players to invest in the renewable energy projects.

According to senior officials in the government, the power generated at the solar projects will be fed into the Northern Grid through a transmission line between Leh and Srinagar that is presently under construction.
